Dialing it back with Art and Jazz

Salut Les Amis! These past few weeks have been hectic and exhilarating. From starting a new job to working diligently on my EP release to meeting my icon, Plini, it’s safe to say that life has been moving very fast for me. During my siesta, I took the time to immerse myself in literature about Art and Jazz. It was a fascinating journey that allowed me to uncover the profound connection between these two artistic forms. What struck me the most was how both Art and Jazz thrive on improvisation, giving the artist the freedom to express themselves fully and create something truly unique in the moment.

What is it about art? The act of creating art is a deeply personal and introspective experience, where artists can explore their thoughts, beliefs, and experiences, and share them with the world in a way that words often cannot.

Here are 3 key moments from the book Art - The Groundbreaking Moments

  1. The Renaissance (14th-17th centuries) birthed artistic innovations, with da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael pioneering perspective and anatomical accuracy. The Impressionist movement (late 19th century) challenged tradition, emphasizing light and color through loose brushstrokes.

  2. Abstract Expressionism (1940s-1950s) led by Pollock and de Kooning embraced non-representational forms, emphasizing emotion and the act of painting.

  3. These groundbreaking moments shifted artistic paradigms, from a revival of classical ideals to the exploration of light and color, and finally, a departure into non-representational expression, collectively shaping the diverse landscape of art throughout history.

How about Jazz? Jazz, on the other hand, is a musical genre that is defined by its improvisational nature. It is a genre that encourages musicians to step outside the boundaries of traditional composition and embrace spontaneity. The beauty of Jazz lies in its ability to capture the raw emotions and energy of the moment, creating a truly immersive and captivating musical experience.
