Celebrating Guitar Progress and Upcoming Gigs
Salut Les Amis! Welcome to another edition of my weekly newsletter! (Often known as the true test of my writing habit)
Every week, you'll get insights into my life as a part time musician, things that helped me get better and other quirky bits of information I find annoyingly interesting, handcrafted and delivered straight to your inbox.
Today's Topics:
Zack's grooves: Captivating but can overshadow melody.
45-day guitar practice streak; 95% accuracy achieved!
Live set automation complete; video tutorial coming soon.
Everything Yes and my upcoming work
The influence of this band on my future work is going to be undeniable. Sometimes, I have to force myself to mute Zack's amazing drum grooves just so I can hear the melodic parts better. Zack's grooves are so captivating that they can overshadow other elements. Sean Reeser, who writes the melody lines, is phenomenal. I take lessons from him every month and feel incredibly lucky to have made that connection.
Writing Music:
I can't wait to start writing music again. However, I'm currently enjoying this deep learning phase, and it's incredibly addictive! Every new concept I learn opens up endless possibilities for creativity.
Jazz Fusion:
There are many reasons why I love jazz fusion, but none of them alone capture the essence of my attraction to it. It might be the complexity, syncopation, implied harmony, or improvisation. Essentially, it's all the fundamentals of music coming together. Jazz Fusion is where all these elements blend seamlessly, and I can listen to it for hours on end.
Guitar Practice:
I'm thrilled to share that I'm on a 45-day streak with my guitar practice. I'm achieving almost 95% accuracy on my setlist, which feels incredibly rewarding. Consistency is key, and I'm seeing the results!
Live Set Automation:
I finally figured out how to automate my patch changes in the live set. It took me 2 hours of sitting down, following a YouTube tutorial step-by-step, and scouring the internet for solutions to any roadblocks. I'll make a video about it soon to help others who might be facing the same challenges.
End-of-Year Gigs:
The end of the year is looking amazing as I am scheduled to play 4 gigs. That's 3 more than I had initially planned for the entire year! I honestly did not think it would be possible, but it shows that hard work pays off. The plan is to reach out to as many venues as possible, record a bunch of content at studio shows, and play more shows.
Playing Live:
Playing live is incredibly fun! I'm so grateful for all these opportunities and hope to be in your city very soon. If you would like to see me play in your city, please feel free to write me an email. Your support means the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting news!
